So that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world. Philippians 2:15
§§§§§§§§§
Jesus said “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
The great evangelist D. L. Moody shared the story of a tragedy on the rocks of Lake Erie near Cleveland. Two hundred souls perished because the keeper of the lower lights failed to do his job. Moody reportedly said, “The Master will take care of the great lighthouse! Let us keep the lower lights burning!”
Phillip Bliss was among those at Moody’s meeting and was compelled, by the story, to write this great hymn.
We, the members of the body of Christ, believers who have received the Light of the world, have been given charge by our Lord to keep our lights burning. Those who do not know the Lord need the light in order to find safety in the harbor.
§§§§§§§§§
Father, thank You for the Lighthouse that led me to safety in the Harbor of Your love. You have given me the task of shining Your Light and Love on souls in danger. Help me to be faithful in the task. Amen.
